Benjamin is a 2004 graduate from the Chicago-Kent College of Law of the Illinois Institute of Technology. While there, Benjamin earned a certificate in Intellectual Property Law, was awarded a CALI award in International Law, and was a founding member of the Chicago Intellectual Property Colloquium. Prior to law school, Benjamin earned a B.S. in Chemistry with a heavy focus on Thermodynamic Biochemistry and Computer Science. He also earned a technical certificate in Computer Science and has studied abroad for a semester in Universidad Laica Vicente Rocafuerte in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Benjamin has written two scholarly papers, a legal article Using Epistemic Pragmatism to Define Self-Determination and a scientific article Protein Prenylation as a Potential Anti-Cancer Treatment. He also presented a seminar on Intellectual Property Law to the Engineering Departments of the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2003.
Prior to joining Vidas, Arrett & Steinkraus, P.A. Benjamin worked for the Chicago-Kent Legal Clinic as a patent agent for low income inventors. He also worked for the City of Chicago Department of Environment where he prosecuted violators of the Illinois Environmental Protection Act, litigated Administrative Citations before the Illinois Pollution Control Board, conducted complex title research, and drafted technical comments on proposed city ordinances. Before entering the legal profession, Benjamin worked for The Systems House Inc. and Cap Gemini-Ernst & Young as a computer programmer.
In his current practice, Benjamin has drafted and prosecuted to issue dozens of patent applications in such arts as: electrical, chemical, biomedical, software, mechanical, and alternative fuel technologies. He has also presented lectures on PCT procedure, has drafted license contracts, and has supported patent litigation. He has also supervised foreign patent prosecutions in Canada, Germany, and Japan,
In addition to his law practice, Benjamin occasionally teaches legal classes and has taught Tax Law, Environmental Law, Civil Procedure, Legal Ethics, Real Property Law, International Law, and Business Law in the National American University Paralegal and MBA programs.
Outside of the practice of law, Benjamin enjoys karate and currently holds a purple belt in Shinto-Goju Ryu style karate.
